Our Earth Pics

This week in ICT we had a go at using Kid Pix and Tux Paint to draw our planet earth. We were learning to draw lines and use the fill bucket. Check out our awesome results below.

Our Experiment!

Setting up our experiment

For our inquiry unit investigating the ways we look after our planet. As part o this we are carrying out a bury it investigation. In two large tubs outside our classroom we have buried five samples each of paper lunch wrap, gladwrap, tinfoil and apple. We are investigating how these things break down and compost over time. Today we dug up our first samples after they had been buried for a week. Here is what they look like.

The changes that we noticed were that the apple had turned yellow and that the

paper lunchwrap had become weak so Sally easily accidentally tore it.

Tuby the Tuba

On Thursday we were lucky enough to have some members of the Nelson Symphony Orchestra come to school. They have been involved with the Tuby the Tuba performance. We got to hear what a Tuba and a Violin sound like. One of the ladies had also used plasticine to make the instruments to show us what they look like.

Maori Legends

This term as part of Maori we are learning all about Maori legends. Today we visited an exhibition about Maori legends at the museum. Cindy from the museum told us the legend about how Maui fished up the North Island of New Zealand. We were then divided into groups where we took part in acting out a Maori legend.

Farewell Talia

Yesterday we farewelled Talia. She has moved to Brightwater and so is going to go to Brightwater School. Talia is going to be in Room 1, the same class that Sally started in when she started at Brightwater School! We found out about her new class by looking on their blog. Becky and her Mum made cupcakes for us to share for Talia's farewell party. They were yummy. Thankyou Becky and Judith!

Term 2 Goals 09

This term we have each thought about some of the things we would like to improve in and be "better than before". Next we had to decide how we would show our goal in a photograph and one of our classmates then took the photo. Listen to our voice thread to hear about our goals. You can also read them on our wall in our classroom.

Today we were lucky enough to have some guys from Kelly Sports come along and do a sports session with us. We got to pretend that we were David Beckham and Michael Jordan when we were doing all the fun activities. They are going to be running after school sessions here at school on Thursday afternoons.

Today we watched the fun video from Sesame Street called Earth Rocks as part of our inquiry. This term we are investigating ways in which we can help save and protect earth. In particular we are looking at reducing, reusing and recycling our waste. Below you can seel all the reasons why we thought that the earth rocked.

In the last week of term we were lucky enough to have a hockey session from a lady from Nelson Hockey. She taught us all how to hold a hockey stick correctly. We then had lots of fun learning to dribble and juggle a hockey ball using the hockey stick.
