Matariki

Yesterday we celebrated Matariki. Matariki is the celebration of the Maori New Year. The Kowhai syndicate had a rotation of activities which we all joined in. We started in our own classroom where we made 3D stars with Caroline. Next we went to Teresa's classroom where we wove some putiputi (flowers) using paper. After that we went to Dianne's class where we learnt some Maori action songs including how to use rakau (sticks). To end our celebration all of the Kowhai Syndicate shared their lunch together.

Brook St Kindy Visit

Today we visited Brook St Kindy with Renwick 2. For some of us we enjoyed visiting our old kindy and seeing our old teachers again. We had lots of fun playing in the sandpit, painting, playing in the water table, singing and so much more. Check out some of what we did on the clip below.

Conflict Personalities

In class lately we have been learning all about the different types of personality people have in terms of conflict. We have been learning that it is best to have the personality of an owl. They are co-operative, they like to find solutions to problems which both people are happy about and they say what they would like, but they also listen to others. What personality type are you and what do you need to change in order to become more like an owl?

Yesterday we were lucky enough to watch a performance from a music group from Nelson College for Girls. They sang in a small groups as well as in one large group. Some girls performed in a guitar group whilst one brave girl played us her clarinet. We were lucky enough to watch Becky's big sister perform.

Today it was the school cross county.  We had been training all term for it.  For most of us it was our first cross country. Whilst some of us were a little nervous we were mostly excited.  We ran really well and showed Sally our 'Can Do' attitudes.  In the 5 year old girls race Ta'a-Marie won, Sofie came third and Lucy was just behind in fourth place.  In the boys race Dillon ran a hard race and finished in second place.  Our teacher Sally decided to run in the open race and only let 8 children beat her! :)

Saving the Planet Poster

Today in ICT we had to design a poster to tell people about saving the planet.  We had to think of a slogan and a picture to match.  Check out what we came up with below.

Today Room 12 and Renwick 2 went to the landfill and recycling centre. At the Recycling Centre we saw lots of stuff like baby chairs, old baths, pushchairs and dollies that people didn't want anymore. They reuse rubbish because people come in and buy want other people don't want anymore. We also saw them sorting all the recycling from our blue bins into cages. There were cages for things like cans, plastic and bottles.

Next we went to the landfill. We saw the man using a bulldozer to spread out all the rubbish. We also learnt that they use the gas from the landfill at the hospital in their boiler.
